Equipment
I started riding on a borrowed bike (a Trek 790). I borrowed a helmet too, and already owned a water bottle. Riding doesn't have to be expensive. But as with many hobbies, we often get move involved over time. Eventually, we own our own bike and helmet. And there it begins. Here's a list of my riding equipment:
- Road bike
- Helmet
- Repair kit
- GPS
- Heart rate monitor
- Water bottle (or two)
- Helmet mounted rear-view mirror
- Energy gels (for longer rides)
- iPod (sometimes)
I'll talk about a few of these items on the pages in this section. GPS units are discussed in another section of the web site. I'm not qualified to talk about helmets but suggest that you get one that fits well. I hope the subjet of water bottles is self-explanitory. As for engery gels, after much personal research, I find them to be mostly alike (flavor variety is nice). Packing a peanut butter sandwitch works just fine too. I'll skip the conversation about listening to music while riding.
